Sitting Up Guard Pass into Back Mount Transition
In this weeks How to video we wanted to share with you a sitting up style guard pass that will transition into a back mount.
So, Rob is in a sitting up style position. An effective way to get him on his back is by scooping his ankles, lifting up and putting him on his back.
Now from here, the goal is to maintain contact with his legs. We don’t want him to start getting into an open guard situation where he has his feet on my hips or the outside of my knee. So as soon as we scoop his ankles up our hands are going to be on his shins and we’re going to be pressing forward. In this technique, we’re going to kick our lead leg over him. I can start to guide his legs to one side. The goal is to step over him and sit on his legs.It would be best to go with an under hook, control his neck and finish in side control. However, inherent to the transition there is a little bit of space involved. It’s possible that he will be the one getting an under hook. Knowing that he’s going to do this, let’s plan ahead. When he goes for the under hook I’m going to put my right hand to the floor, blocking his hips. Next, I’m going to get up on my knee, step the left leg out so it’s in alignment with his spine. And as I switch my base my knee is going to drop to the mat. I’m going to back step with my right leg and my elbow is going to drop in front of his hip here. I’m going to make sure I put my chest low toward his back.
Then switch my base into a chair sit, step the leg over and fall to the opposite side. We’ll be ending up in a weak side position but that’s ok. That’s our Sitting up Guard Pass into the Back Mount Transition. In our next video, we’ll be covering a little bit more of the control once you get to the weak side; and a couple of possible finishes.
